202309.07 'That's odd' and 'that's salient' are independent processes (Poster presentation) Posted in RESEARCH

In a scene with a semantically incongruent object, the object tends to be salient and be memorable. However, it is unclear whether semantically incongruent objects affects physically salient objects or works independently. Our study using a working memory task with scene images has indicated that semantically salient objects and physically salient objects do not affect each other. We presented this finding at the 23rd meeting of the European Society for Cognitive Psychology (ESCoP), held at the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences of the University of Porto, Portugal. We also enjoyed the beautiful scenes and academic discussions in the scenic town on the Atlantic coast. (Tanabe)
