202303.06 Automatic adaptive emotion regulation is "unthinking"? (Paper publication) Posted in RESEARCH

Conscious emotion regulation strategies involve activity in the parietal/frontal cortex, but do similar brain processes also play a role in automatic emotion regulation? We measured brain activity with functional MRI by presenting emotional images without emotional control instructions and found that people with automatic adaptive emotional regulation had rather low activity in many brain regions, including the parietal and frontal cortices. Automatic adaptive emotion regulation may involve mechanisms that do not engage the deliberative processes that take place in these brain regions. These findings have been published in Frontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience. iSugiura)
