202305.27 Does self-transcendence trait suppress brain response to environmental thermal stress? (Conference presentation) Posted in RESEARCH

The self-transcendent trait, which is closely related to religiosity, prosociality, and wellbeing, and resistance to environmental thermal stress appear to have in common the unique human capacity to control psychological stress. Data supporting this hypothesis show that people with high self-transcendence actually have a smaller brain response to thermal stress. The results of this study, "Brain activity of self-transcendent individuals during environmental thermal stress," were presented at a conference in Assis and discussed by researchers from various fields, including theology and sociology.
