Human brain science for the future

Super aging society, increasing disasters, and ‘smart’ society to come; how do these environmental and social changes affect our lives and values? From the perspective of cognition and brain science, we aim to make proposals on the future of human life, technology and society.

202305.22 Investigation of the validity of evacuation attitude assessment using fictitious scenarios (conference presentation) Posted in RESEARCH

Do the same psychological processes operate in tsunami evacuation decision-making under fictitious earthquake scenarios as in reality? The results of an online experiment supported this possibility, as the association between evacuation rates and personality traits replicated the findings of the Great East Japan Earthquake (2011), suggesting the efficacy of evacuation attitude assessment using fictitious scenarios. The results of this research, "Development of a Fictitious Scenario Task for Tsunami Evacuation Attitude Assessment," were presented orally at the " Literacy for Disaster Risk Reduction" session of the 2023 Congress of the Japan Geoscience Union. There was a lively discussion especially on how to create earthquake scenarios. (Sugiura)
