Language and communication
Humans create a society through communication, and language is its powerful tool to convey feelings and move people. Elucidation of the neural bases of these functions and their acquisition is expected to contribute to understanding humanity and to educational applications.

Using fMRI, we investigated brain activity during Korean sentence processing. The results revealed that the left-lateralized language network dynamically resolves prediction errors in syntax and thematic roles. Together with evidence from other languages, these findings suggest the existence of a universal neural mechanism for predictive sentence processing.
This study was a collaboration among Kyunghee University (Korea), Brigham Young University (USA), and Tohoku University (Japan), and was presented as a poster titled “Neural Correlates of Predictive Processing of Word Order and Thematic Roles in Korean Sentence Comprehension: An fMRI Study” at ICON 2025 – International Conference on Cognitive Neuroscience, held in Porto, Portugal, September 15–20, 2025.
