According to the psychological theory of sociometer theory, individuals often control their self-evaluations to promote positive social interactions. However, the relationship between social acceptance and self-evaluation is not clear. In this study, we used fMRI to investigate the relationship between the neural correlates of self-evaluation and sense of acceptance. The results showed that when evaluating negative adjectives, individuals with lower sense of acceptance were more willing to regulate their emotions. In addition, when evaluating positive moral adjectives, individuals with a stronger sense of acceptance were more willing to interpret the thoughts of others. These findings were presented at the annual meeting of the Cognitive Neuroscience Conference. (Ding)
