A special issue of Japanese Psychological Review, "Cognitive and neural basis of nostalgia and its functions" has been published by researchers conducting research on nostalgia. It contains a lot of information about the past and future of nostalgia research. I wrote a comment paper on the review of neuroscientific research on nostalgia, and proposed the importance of research focusing on the aspect of ambivalent emotions such as bittersweet and the meaning of nostalgia in old age as future prospects.
