What is the cognitive mechanism during comprehension of language switching? Until now, the related studies focus on bilingual children. Moreover, bilingual knowledge and experience may affect on cognitive processes. We perform a psycholinguistic study on Japanese learners of English whose knowledge and experience in the second language are controlled. In the comprehension of language switching, switching directions do not affect the cognitive process in comprehension. However, switching directions determine which component of executive functions should engage. This study is accepted by Studies in Language Sciences (Hsieh).
