The experience or personality trait of self-transcendence has two aspects: a sensory-motor experience of expanding self-boundaries and unifying with society, nature, and the universe, and a higher spirituality such as psychosocial and religious awareness and behavior. I gave a lecture on the function and mechanism of self-transcendence at the Credition 2021 Symposium in Hannover, Germany, based on the relationship of self-transcendence and action self-agency, neural activity in sensorimotor cortex, and aging and disaster experience.
