Relationship between sense of self-agency and self-transcendence (Paper publication)
Posted in RESEARCH
The sense of self-agency in action distorts time perception at the sensorimotor level, the measure of which is intentional binding (IB). Self-transcendence refers to the sense that one extends beyond one's own boundaries and connects with one's environment and society, and the larger, prosocial worldview that this brings about. A behavioral experiment with 63 college students revealed a positive correlation between individual differences in the degree of these two seemingly unrelated sensations. Perceptual distortions at the sensorimotor level may govern our perception of the world at diverse levels. A joint research paper with Dr. Niikuni of Niigata Seiryo University has been published in the journal Consciousness and Cognition. (Sugiura) https://doi.org/10.1016/j.concog.2022.103351
