202207.15 Emotion Processing in Foreign Languages (New Project Grant-in-Aid for Exploratory Research) Posted in RESEARCH

The ability to express one's feelings in a foreign language is essential for foreign language communicative ability in the global society. However, previous studies have focused on the acquisition of individual knowledge and skills in pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, etc., and consequently have lacked a clear understanding of the mechanisms related to the processing of emotions in foreign languages. To solve this problem, my proposed research has been selected as a new KAKENHI project (Grant-in-Aid for Exploratory Research: Investigation of brain mechanisms of emotional processing in foreign languages). This project aims to understand the mechanisms of foreign language acquisition in an integrated manner using multiple approaches, considering not only the acquisition of linguistic knowledge but also social skills and the emotions that support these skills.
