202304.01 Issues in responding to the Nankai Trough Extra Information (Paper publication ) Posted in RESEARCH

A survey of coastal residents, including those living in areas subject to evacuation, revealed that only about 30% of them are aware that they live in the designated areas. The one-week advance evacuation of residents based on the Nankai Trough Extra Information is an innovative attempt to utilize the latest findings of seismology in disaster prevention, but awareness of the scheme seems to be insufficient. In addition to trust in the information, general risk management awareness, such as evacuating just in in case even if the possibility of disaster is low, was also found to be important for evacuation intentions. The results of this study were published in the article "The Anticipated Nankai Trough Earthquake and Tsunami in Japan: Determinant Factors of Residents' Pre-Event Evacuation Intentions" in the Journal of Disaster Science.
