202509.07 The Influence of Personality Traits and Optimism on Experimental Pain: fMRI Study(Poster Presentation) Posted in RESEARCH

Personality traits are known to influence pain perception.
Some studies suggest that individuals with higher extraversion and agreeableness show greater pain tolerance, while others argue that highly agreeable individuals may feel stronger pressure from social demands, making them less able to endure pain.
These findings are inconsistent, and there has been little comprehensive discussion considering multiple psychological factors simultaneously, nor sufficient evidence regarding the underlying neural mechanisms.

In this study, we combined experimental pain stimuli with surveys of multiple psychological factors, conducting both behavioral and fMRI experiments.
We presented our findings as a poster at the 89th Annual Convention of the Japanese Psychological Association, held at Tohoku Gakuin University, Itsutsubashi Campus.

The poster attracted more attention than expected, and instead of simple questions, many attendees offered deep insights and alternative interpretations from diverse academic backgrounds.
These perspectives from various fields of psychology have been invaluable, providing significant help and inspiration for further analyses.
We will continue to refine our analyses and work toward publishing these findings.(CHANG)
