202106.03 Neurocognitive Mechanisms of Bilingual Word Recognition (Paper accepted) Posted in RESEARCH

When Chinese-Japanese bilinguals read logograms, especially cognates (e.g., 「銀行」と「椅子」belong to both Chinese and Japanese), which mechanism does support their word recognition? In this study, we examine bilinguals’ word recognition with fMRI. Our results suggest that the shared orthography and meaning of cognates enhance response conflicts in the task/decision system during bilingual word recognition. This study is accepted by Frontiers in Psychology. (Hsieh).https://doi.org/10.3389/fpsyg.2021.643211
