Hometown of Science -9th Tohoku Brain Science Winter School–

The 9th Tohoku Brain Science Winter School was held on February 22 and 23 at Naruko Onsen Town Nakayamadaira Senshokan. At this workshop, Dr. Yuko Yotsumoto (the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, the University of Tokyo), and Dr. Yoshihiro Yoshihara (RIKEN Center for Brain Science Laboratory for Systems Molecular Ethology) would be invited as lecturers. And we received lectures on the latest research and career development of the lecturers. They also had a lively discussion with young winter school participants at poster presentations and oral presentations.
I participated in the Winter School as an executive committee member and had been preparing for the workshop more than six months ago to implement the workshop. This role as a steering committee member of a student-centered workshop was my first experience, so I had to face various difficulties. However, with the reassuring support of the members of the Brain Science Youth Association, I think that I have made a small contribution to the management of the workshop.
During the hosting of this workshop and on the bus on the way to the Sendai Station(Returning), we could receive many positive feedbacks from participants!! From those feedbacks, I felt that this winter school was a place “to reconsider why you wanted to be a researcher” and a place “to seriously face the concept of science”(Ohgata).
